Is a virtual audition a hindrance or an opportunity?

Let us discuss virtual auditions.

They began as a need as a result of the epidemic and, happily, continued to keep our industry moving throughout COVID.
But, while the virtual audition gains traction in the industry, we haven't stopped to think that, in their current form, they aren't a viable long-term solution.

Before the epidemic, however, the way we cast shows (700-person lines at 5 a.m. in midtown Manhattan, for example) was not the best way to do things.
Electronic submissions have been one of the pandemic's great innovations, and they deserve credit.

But we must also consider the labor that dancers are expected to do on their own. So, here are a few things to think about when it comes to virtual auditions.
