How the Rising Festival helped us dance during the pandemic After three years of planning, Rising's debut edition gave Melbourne's festival-starved public a full schedule of 225 activities.
With eight local and foreign performances, it was only reasonable to anticipate a dance-heavy presence given that former Chunky Move creator and choreographer Gideon Obarzanek served as co-director. The performances ranged from the brilliant Indonesian dancer and choreographer Rianto's ritualistic Hijra'h to the amazing local performer Jo Lloyd and her dancers in conversation with drummer Jim White and guitarist Emmett Kelly.
