“Young artists need to be down at City Hall. That’s where the influence is.” Reggie Harris
Reggie Harris entered politics in order to learn more about Cincinnati.
In 2015, the former professional dancer and his husband, a speech pathology professor, came to the Queen City and began participating on political campaigns to meet new people.
"The ballet company was the only thing I knew about Cincinnati," Harris explains.
Now, as the city's first out homosexual Black man elected to City Council, the Chicago native has gone all in for Cincinnati.
Harris began his campaign with a dancing video, and despite receiving the third-highest number of votes among candidates running for nine seats, he sees his victory in 2021 as a watershed moment.
"It speaks a lot about the evolution of Cincinnati as a city," Harris adds, "and it says a lot about the evolution of Cincinnati as a city to me."
