Willa Jawole In 1984, Jo Zollar established the dance group Urban Bush Women. One of the earliest significant dance companies with only female African-American dancers was this one. It became a phenomenon in the dance community very quickly. The group refers to Zollar's choreography, which was revolutionary at the time and is now cutting edge, as "the urgent discourse of the 21st century." It combines text and screamed language with movement from modern dance and traditional folk African dance techniques.
