Zachary Frongillo believed he had abandoned dance.
The owner of the Savannah Bananas, a Coastal Plain League baseball team, then asked him to coach first base one fateful day last summer.
He reluctantly consented, and in addition to advising Bananas base runners when it was okay to steal second, he performed a series of pirouettes between pitches. The ballet dancer in uniform video went viral.
As the Bananas' director of entertainment, Frongillo is in charge of ensuring that fans don't just see a baseball game, but a variety show that includes everything from a 65-and-up line-dance squad (the Banana Nanas) to a batter walking up to the plate on stilts—and, yes, dancing first-base coaches, which has become a team tradition.
