Nashville Ballet Bids "Ballet Pink" Farewell
While Nashville Ballet's BIPOC dancers have long had the option to do so, the majority of the other dancers tended to default to the more widely accessible pink for classical repertory.
All dancers will now put on dancer-specific flesh-tone tights and footwear as part of the company's efforts to become more diverse and equal.
According to creative director Paul Vasterling, "classical ballet is all about the line to infinity in an arabesque, which stretches uninterrupted from the arms to the legs and toes."
He continues by saying that the original European aesthetic of pink tights and shoes is not in line with his goal of highlighting the individuality of the dancers at Nashville Ballet.
